A trip to Zhengzhou

I joined the five-day Zhengzhou (鄭州) trip organized by the board of directors of the three JCC schools from 20th to 24th during the Easter Holiday. The trip was organized for teachers of the 3 JCC schools. It aimed at promoting a better interaction between the 3 schools and to arouse our interest in Chinese culture. I know that they organize trips to different places every year and this was the 2nd time I traveled with them. Last year, we went to Guangdong (廣東) for 2 days and a night.

I signed up for the Zhengzhou trip because I wanted to see the Shaolin Temple in ShungShan (嵩山). Things in China WERE very mysterious to me and some WERE even magical. However, as I have experienced after a few trips to China, things weren’t the way I had imagined. I went to Urumqi (烏魯木齊) last year and I really thought that there would be big grass lands everywhere I went to. In fact, Urumqi is a big city with tall buildings everywhere. So I was really disappointed. Anyway, let’s go back to Shaolin Temple. It was really commercialized. There were people practicing Kung Fu and monks walking around the area. However, some were wearing sunglasses and some had fancy tops (what was glad was that even they had fancy tops, they still had traditional pants on them – good that they didn’t come out with their jeans on!!) So here, once again. =_=(dik hon) I didn’t know if I should be happy or not seeing that China is now more civilized. I think what the Chinese government needs to do is to put more effort on preserving their national heritages. It is sad to see them being neglected and ruined.

The trip wasn’t all bad though. Other places we went to were quite good and I really enjoyed it. Besides the Shaolin Temple, we also went to some other places with I found really educational.

Generally speaking, I think the trip was really well-organized and I learnt a lot from it. I am sure what I learnt will be in good use in the future and I am hoping that if time allows, I would sign up for such trips again in the future.

One thing I have to mention here is that the hotels we stayed in in these 5 days were all really good. They weren’t all 5-star hotels but I think they were really good taking into account that “Hey, you are now in China! What more do u want?”

cant wait ^^

The Easter holiday is approaching and i am really looking forward to it because i will go to 洛陽 with some co-workers for 5 days during the Easter break. i am sure it will be good as i have never been there before. i am told that it is an ancient city and there is a lot to see. Hopfully, i can eat the traditional food there ^^ oh god, i love eating so much. i am going to be a pig one day.

Something really irritating happened today. It was about one of my students. But anyway, she is just a kid (the inner me talking "She is 18! Is she still a kid!!!")

By the way, the tiramisu was really nice. Thanks Ray and Jason for filling our stomach and widening our waistline (ya, like i care!) =_=. I also have to thanks myself for not being lazy to take a piece of it... ... and to put it into my mouth... ... .and to chew it... ... and to digest it.. ...It was so much effort eating it.

a conversation between a father and a son (terrible)

I was eating alone tonight in a noodles restaurant (yes. i was eating alone = i had no company = i was lonely ... ... say whatever you want=_=). Anyway, there was a family of 3 sitting directly opposite of my table. They were talking about pop stars and music. I thought it was good that the father could discuss his son's interest during the dinner. I paid attention to what they were talking about. I wasnt doing it delibrately, but i couldnt help overhearing them since they were quite loud, you know.

They started off with their feelings towards different pop stars. Suddenly, I heard the father saying something like "What? you like Eason!! He can't fxxxxxg sing!" and things like "Andy Lau! eat sxxt lar."

His son was only about 10 or 11 from his look. Hopfully, he won't end up like his dad. "Like father, like son."

Kids' behaviours are mostly reflections of their close ones. Should the parents be blamed for their son's or daughter's bad behaviours? or should the parents be blamed for not being a role model?

(I ate a lot today =_=)

1/3 Green Power Hiking Event

It has been a really long time since the last time i wrote in here. Sorry lar. me lazy mar. Anyway.

I had an excellent day yesterday as it was the hiking race that we had long been waiting for since last Dec. The event was organised by Green Power, an environmental protection organisation, and various companies. It aimed at promoting environmental awareness to the public. All the donation raised from this event will be used in environmental protection. The hiking trail was Hong Kong Trail on Hong Kong Island. As the name says "環島行", we walked around HK Island. It was 50km long.

Me and along with 11 other teachers from JCCSS(TM) and some other friends participated in this meaningful event. It actually meant a lot to some of us because we put our heart in preparing for this event. I like hiking very much but it was the first time ever that we had to walk for 50km. Therefore, we had to prepare ourselves for the big day. We went hiking and jogging from time to time since January. Hoping that we would be able to finish the race. We had 3 groups. The good ones like Ms Mok and Mr Chow Ying were in the same group with KFNg and YMChan from IT. I was with WChau, TCWong and Boyscout Mr Lee. We also had a group of 4 female teachers. They were YYPoon, CYTse, WMLin and KMLo. WFSiu was also there with us.

The weather was really good yesterday and it was just perfect for the race. The event kicked off at the Peak at 8:30am. There should be probably a few hundreds there at the starting point. Yesterday wasn't as hazy as the days before so it was pretty good for enjoying the nice views around the island. There were a few support points along the trail for participants to refill their bottles and energy. They had Pocari, bread, bananas and pears for us. I ate a lot of bananas as they could give me instant recovery.

Some of us got to our private support man (not support team =_=) earlier at Stage 4 and some got there later. Cyrus and I got to him at around 1:15pm after walking 25km. We were happy with the timing. We took a 20 minutes rest there, ate some bread and fruit and started off again. Some of us didn't complete the race and had to drop out because of injuries.

It was quite tough starting from Stage 4 to the end. Some of us got injured somewhere in between stage 4 and Stage 8 but we still managed to complete the while race. My group finished the race at 9pm. It was great.

Although the hike was meant to be held for environmental protection, some people participating in the event werent very "environmentally friendly" at all. I could see plastic bottles, rubbish, packages of biscuits and chocolate near the support points stationed along the trail. At one point, i even saw a piece of used tissue hanging off a low branch. I felt sort of upset because of the rubbish around. =_= Some people can be quite inconsiderate.
